Our under 16's finalists in Sports Team of the Year Award

At a glittering black tie dinner at Mingara Sports Club on Saturday 19th November, the Wildcat's Under 16
team were just pipped at the post by Gosford City Rebels U16 Basketball Team. The Rebels are a multi-state
title winning basketball team.
Next year's coach, Luther Dyson plus front rower Keanu Ashwell, were called up on stage and presented with a finalist's certificate before a large and appreciative crowd.
After being recognised as one of the top four teams of all sports on the Central Coast at the evening, this team continues their astonishing run of success.

Wildcats get a hearing in State Parliament

The Wildcats Sporting Club has been recognised for tireless efforts in the community by being mentioned in a speech by Darren Webber MP (Member for Wyong) in the NSW Parliament. This honour is a great endorsement of the talent within our club, and the support all our teams get from the Warnervale Wildcats Club.

Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal

Sunday 29th May saw Wildcats knocking on doors and ringing bells to help the Salvation Army in their annual Red Shield appeal. The boys from the Under 15’s unselfishly gave up their Sunday morning lie in to represent our club and raise funds for a very worthy cause. The Salvation Army commented that on Sunday our little band of door knockers broke a fundraising record for the area we were given. Well done boys!

Connor Wanstall, Davydd Smith, Matt Burns, Clark Bilton and Matt Winslow and in lieu of 2 responsible adults Jim Bilton and Grant Smith had to help out.

Another fantastic effort with three Wildcats U15's selected in NSW Country U15 squad.

Our U15's players have done the club proud at the U15's country championships at Bowral on the weekend with three of our five rep players being selected in the Country U15's representative squad. Wildcats players in the U15's were Sione Afu, Clark Bilton, Brock Hammond, Jonah Taylor and Matt Winslow.

Similarly to our U16's boys, Central Coast U15's finished third in the championships by defeating Illawarra in a great match.

Sione Afu, Brock Hammond and Jonah Taylor were rewarded for their consistent performances at the carnival with Country selection - a first for each of the boys.

The President, Junior Vice President, Committee and club members congratulate all the Wildcat boys for their efforts.

Amazing effort with four players selected in the
NSW Country Under 16 squad

The Warnervale Under 16 team was rewarded for their fantastic 2010 undefeated season, and the undefeated start to the 2011 season, by having four players selected in the Country Under 16 squad last weekend.

Brenton Acreman, Sam Heterick, Cameron McNamara, and Jack Stonestreet were honoured with selection after the entire Central Coast team played magnificent football to allow these players to relax and show their talents. Other Wildcat players in the Central Coast squad were: Keanu Ashwell, Ben Butler, Tom Demetch and Chris Russell.

The president, junior vice-president, and committee extend their warmest congratulations to these players.

The Wildcat's fantastic Country championships

What a great weekend for the Warnervale Wildcats with a number of their players featuring in the Under 16 and Under 17 championships at Ourimbah.

The Central Coast Under 16's - featuring quite a few Wildcat players - finished up in third place in Country NSW after defeating the strong Illawarra team. Only for a disallowed try in the final seconds of the major semi-final on Sunday morning, the team would have been playing for first and second place. The Wildcat players in the Under 16's were:- Brenton Acreman, Keanu Ashwell, Ben Butler, Tom Dimetch, Sam Heterick, Cameron McNamara, Chris Russell, and Jack Stonestreet,

The Central Coast Under 17's - featuring Russell Bayliss and Jack Williams (who couldn't play due to injury) finished a credible fifth position in Country NSW. The Under 17's were hampered with a drop-off in numbers, and a lack of trial matches. but still played some terrific rugby to record some terrific games.

Brenton Acreman, Sione Afu, Luke Burgess, Brock Hammond, Samuel Heterick, Christopher Russell, Jack Stonestreet, Jonah Taylor, Dylan Thorne, and Netane Tonga.

The executive, committee, and the entire Wildcat's family, extend hearty congratulations to all these fine young team members.

Gazza and Kevy feature in Senior CCRU awards

Our own Gary Head and Kevin McNamara picked up two of the most prestigious awards in the recent CCRU awards ceremony. Garry picked up a well-deserved gong for coach of the year after leading our First Grade to its most successful season yet, while Kev was selected as the most improved senior player on the coast. Congratulation to both these Wildcats, and well deserved.

"Bill" was a hit

What a great afternoon when the ARU Roadshow visited our home ground bringing along the William Webb Ellis Cup, as well as the Tri Nations Trophy.

The Tri Nations was still warm from that great game the other week when the Wallabies beat the All Blacks to get their hands on it. What a fantastic pat on the back to the Wildcats, being the only club on the Coast to have the honour to host these two unique Rugby trophies.

First Grade 2011 SEASON RESULTS & TABLE

Click here to move to the Central Coast Rugby Union draw and points table

The Wild Wagon

Central Coast Motor Wholesale of Kanwal (at the lights opposite Wyong hospital) has donated a vehicle to the Warnervale Wildcats Club for the use of Michael Sheppard and Lawson Mann for transport.

Michael and Lawson have been "strutting their stuff" in first grade for the last few weeks after flying across from Canada to join the Wildcats family. The club has organised accommodation and work, and now one of the final pieces of the jigsaw (transportation) has fallen into place thanks to our generous sponsor.

The car has been named the Wild Wagon and will be appropriately identified with Wildcats ID. etc. We have this vehicle all year so it can be used as a mobile recruitment poster in October through to February.

CCMotors
Mark Littlejohn presents the vehicle to Phil Potter (Sponsorship Co-ordinator) while Mark and Lawson look on.

Trojans down the Wildcats in the muck

The Haven was up to its usual tricks with mucky conditions and various puddles making life a bit harder for the players. Terrigal led by 17 points to nil at the halftime break and seemed to be having the better of the game at that stage, finally running out victors 36-7. The Wildcats played well but were always chasing the scoreboard, and not quite catching up. Coach Gary Head even pulled on the jersey to a rousing reception from the faithful on the hill, but even his "super human" efforst couldn't help the Warnervale side.
In what was their last game of the season, having the bye next week, Warnervale have had a great season and will be a force in 2012 with their very young side. We need to keep this talented team together, and go into the early preparation for the 2012 season full of confidence. Then the Wildcats will give the competition heavyweights something to fear as we climb towards the top of the ladder.

Josh Holman try;
Josh Rennie 1 conversion

Sharks nibble on the Wildcat tail

This was a really good game by our young first grade side against the competition front runners eventually going down 43-10. The win finally cemented Avoca Beach in front on the competition ladder and, although it was a wonderful game of rugby, the score was probably not a true indication of the flow of the game over the full 80 minutes. Avoca Beach did score 6 tries to 2 and deserved to win on the day but it was a game that saw the Wildcats in with a chance going into the second half. Avoca Beach led by 15 points to nil at the break and the Wildcats had their tails up ready for the upset. Unfortunately Avoca went on with it in the second half to record a pleasing win for themselves, but a disappointment for the team.

Feao Pole, Josh Rennie tries;
Josh Rennie 1 conversion

Wildcats tear the Lions to pieces

Great win by the Firsts coming out on top by 39-15. Warnervale controlled much of the game and were in front for much of the game. Warnervale led by 22 points to 15 at halftime and at that stage the game was still very much up for grabs. The game was quite even in the first 40 minutes but in the second half Warnervale scored 17 points to nil to cement the away win. Woy Woy just could not cross the line in the final 40 minutes. Best for Warnervale were prop Tony Paulo, lock Richie Houston and halfback Josh Holman.

David Armstrong, Luther Dyson, Sean Kanyasi, Kevin McNamara, Pat Baker, Dillon Acreman tries;
Michael Shepherd 2 conversions, 1 penalty goal;
Josh Holman 1 conversion

So close to putting Northlakes to bed

Northlakes kicked a penalty goal in the final few minutes of the match to defeat Warnervale by 22 points to 21 at Slade Park.Warnervale held a narrow lead for much of the game and were hoping to hang on for victory. But Northlakes play inspired rugby and never gave in. Warnervale did have a chance to kick a winning penalty right on fulltime but it was waved away. It was an arm wrestle from start to finish and proved to be an enthralling game of rugby.

Josh Holman, Brennan Wanstall tries;
Jarryd Lees 3 penalty goals, 1 conversion

Wildcats lead Kariong before loss

Kariong may have thought they would get an easy afternoon, but the Wildcats put a scare into them before going down 50-21. There was nothing between the two teams in the first half and Warnervale led the match for quite awhile in the first half. It was only really in the last quarter of the match that Kariong confirmed their victory, and they really did cement the win with two tries in the final 5 minutes. Even though the scoreboard looked like quite a convincing win for Kariong it was quite an intense and close match for much of the game.

Ourimbah put a big score on the Wildcats

After putting the Razorbacks to the sword only a few weeks ago, it was disappointing for the team to go down 45-0. The size of this win was a surprise, as many would have expected this game to go right down to the wire. Ourimbah certainly did strike form in this game as they ran in 6 tries in what proved a really dominant performance. Warnervale simply had one of those days and may rue the result in terms of semi-final positions on the ladder.

Gosford very nearly falls to the Wildcats

Gosford and Warnervale were involved in a ‘do or die’ struggle at Woongarrah Oval on the 25th June. And although the scoreboard says that Gosford won the game by 30 points to 17 the Wildcats led the match 17-16 moving into injury time.

Gosford went to the halftime break leading by 13 points to 8. after they had scored two tries to one, then the early part of the second half saw a penalty shoot out with Warnervale kicking 3 to Gosford’s 1. Gosford’s kicker Tim Hill missed with several shots at goal whereas Warnervale’s Jared Lees was able to guide his over.

Warnervale led by 17 – 16 then fell behind 23 points to 17 before Gosford winger Drew Neist took an intercept to race 50 metres to score his second try of the match. So in the space of a couple of minutes Gosford had turned defeat into a quite comfortable win on the scoreboard. Warnervale were devastated by the loss but this team came of age in this match and definitely showed they are in the fight for a semi-final spot this year.

Warnervale were best served by hooker Ketoni Toutai and lock Richie Houston. This match was ‘even stevens’ until the last few minutes of the game. Gosford remain at the top of competition ladder while Warnervale, although beaten, know they can make the Top Four.

Wildcats adds Ourimbah's scalp to their totem pole

Quite a fiery battle for the win, with the Razorbacks throwing everything at the young Wildcat side trying to put them off their game. But this young side is made of sterner stuff and rode through the storm to put another great win on the board.

It's just an observation, but isn't it funny how the attitude towards our team has changed from when we were getting beaten by embarrassing scores. I guess that is what you have to put up with when you are a winner.

Wildcat 1st Grade team add the Woy Woy scalp to their season

What another wonderful Saturday afternoon at our home ground, the sun was shining, the wind was blowing, and the "grandstand" was cheering. The team played absolutely fantastic rugby to beat the Woy Woy Lions quite convincingly, almost putting on 50 points against them.
What a great reward for those players after suffering some heavy defeats over the past few seasons without losing faith that hard work and self-belief will eventually bring a reward. The win was such a great occassion that the Woy Woy coach, Ross Hopkins, was moved to write a letter of congratulations to our president Jim Bilton.
Ross played and coached at Woy Woy then went to Gordon and coached 2nd and then 1st grade before going overseas to coach and has returned to Woy Woy this year.

Great maiden 2011 win over Northlakes
for First Grade

Try

Blow that whistle for another great try ref. Great day for the Warnervale Club with a maiden win in 2011 after quite a few games when this young side was right in there, but just couldn't finish the game off. This team is developing at a rapid rate and making quite a few of the "big" clubs look over their shoulder.
Here comes the Wildcats.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Terrigal

Result   18-5

The start of the 2011 Rugby season was very much anticipated by both players and parents alike!! Each Wildcat, old or new was filled with enthusiasm and the burning desire to show off their skills!!

After two trials,  the Team, who have progressed since the commencement of training, honing the basic skills and enjoying playing together once more. The Terrigal Trojans were our first opponents.  The match was full of bone jarring tackles and speedy tries. More work is needed on our rucks & mauls, as we have the Team members who can make the trys and tackle hard. Congratulations to Jake for his AWESOME try. Well done!!

The half time pep talk proved most helpful. With the Team greatly consolidating their skills & improving their clean outs. The enthusiasm shown by each and every team member was encouraging to see. Especially our newest recruits.

We have a few weeks off with byes & the school holidays….more training, & more fun to be had by all.

GO WILDCATS!!!

Warnervale Wildcats vs Blue Mountains

It was cold, it was drizzling, then it was hot and sunny - but the team ran out convincing winners against a very strong Blue Mountains side at Lapstone. Discipline from both sides started to fall apart under a torrent of penalties, and the game moved away from the structure the team likes, and the coaching staff expects.

The word from the coaches was "displine", and the Wildcats knuckled down and finished off strongly. Once again the new boys played well, and the coaching staff has some really worrying selection dilemmas coming up over the coming weeks.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Entrance

The final score may have ended up 45-7 to the Wildcats, but this game was never meant to be a blowout score such as that. What a wonderful game by both teams - The Entrance played some terrific football, and never gave up, but the Wildcats just seemed to find any gaps on offer and sped off for a try.

Contrary to worries, the Rams showed up with a full team, and a couple of reserves, so the team was looking forward to a tough game - as all games at Joseph Banks Ovel are. We weren't "disappointed" as the Rams threw everything at the Wildcats trying to get on top and cause an upset win.

The coach was most pleased about the fact that the team held their composure, and discipline remained firm the whole game. Defence was strong, and attack was sparkling - looks good for the year. But Avoca next weekend are the "sleeping dragons" of this competition - the grapevine says they are really looking good so will be a tough task at Avoca Oval.

LATE NEWS: the draw has been changed and we are now playing the Kariong team at Gosford's home ground.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Kariong

It was a game of big hits, and lots of niggle, but the Wildcats held their discipline and kept playing their game. A final score of 62-0 told the tale of the match, with the work off the ball not phasing the players at all, as they just got on with winning the match.

There were "triple tries" to both JackS and TongaN, as they made the most of the work the forwards put in, allowing the backs to come into their own. The rest of the team played as a cohesive unit to make this game one that the coach would be happy with.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Ourimbah

The Ourimbah Razorbacks have always been a very hard team to get over the top of. Their forwards play the game hard, and they have a range of speedy backs. This game showed just how good the Ourimbah team has developed to in 2011.
The Wildcats came out of the blocks slowly and the Razorbacks made them pay with a sharp try which was converted to give Ourimbah the lead at 7-0. The scoreboard was glowing proudly in the overcast conditions until the Warnervale side woke out of their slumber to start putting on points. There were 34 points added to the Wildcats score before Ourimbah finished with a converted try to bring up a final score of 34-14.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Woy Woy

What a shame the Woy Woy side asked to play uncontested scrums meaning they had to drop a player, this could have been a fantastic game. The final score was 14-0 but the closeness of the score was perhaps more a case of a lacklustre game, rather than a close game.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Avoca

This was a game of courage, toughness, and pride in the jersey - the Wildcats shouldn't have won this game. Due to injuries, commitments, holidays, and generally just not showing up, the Wildcats started the game with 12 players, while Avoca had a full squad and quite a few reserves.

Coach Chris decided that the team should struggle with only 12 players, so told the Avoca coach that we didn't wish him to match number, just be aware that we may have to call uncontested scrums if a front-rower didn't show up.

The first two forays into the Avoca half ended with penalties to the Warnervale side, both of which were duely converted by Cam M. We had two players show up before half-time which bought us to 14 players against 15. Avoca eventually got around the outside of our short backline to register a try before half time.

In the second half one of our players from the "injury ward" decided to come on just to be a speed bump and slow the leaks around the edges. The Avoca side was getting frustrated by not being able to get on top of an understrength opposition and started to argue every decision the ref made. Eventually he lost patience and "yellow carded" one of the Avoca players. For the first time in the game we had equal number, then we were one up after the sinbinning. That was until a Wildcat player got over-vigorous and was also sinbinned.

At the end of the game the result was 26-15 which was a fantastic effort considering the great game that Avoca played, and the lack of numbers we had. Well done Avoca, it is good to see this team really starting to hit its straps and becoming a genuine contender.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Kariong

Another tough game for the team, with four of our players missing on NSW Country duties. But the replacements stepped up to the plate and the whole team put in a fantastic performance to help the team to run out victors to the tune of 62-0 at our home ground.

The game was played in really good spirit, with none of the "physical stuff" as in our first meeting with the Wanderers. Maximum discipline was the call from coach Chris, and it showed on the field with the referee congratulating both sides for a terrific game of rugby.

He commented that the teams were virtually refereeing themselves, such was their discipline. "This game was a pleasure to ref" he said, and was one of the best games he has been involved in for some time.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Entrance

This game was a postponed game which was eventually played on Sunday 31st July. Quite a hard weekend for the team having to play Woy Woy on the Saturday, then backup against the Rams on the Sunday.

The game certainly tested the team and it looked like they wanted to keep The Entrance in the game by playing to the Ram's strength in the forwards. When the Wildcats decided to set their backs loose the tries eventually came. Once again there was a lot of niggle in the game and it seems that some teams have decided that the only way to beat the team is to try to niggle them out of the game.

The team has to keep their composure and discipline because every time we retaliate we get pinged. The players need to understand that it is a compliment to the ability of this team that others resort to these sorts of tactics.

Final score of 26-10

Warnervale Wildcats vs Woy Woy

A convincing 40-0 win to the boys against a greatly understrength Woy Woy side which could only field 11 to 12 players. Both teams were missing rep players but the depth of the Warnervale squad was evident.
Woy Woy were courageous but ran out of steam as the match went on. They held our boys to 2 tries in the first half but superior fitness and numbers were too much in the second half as the boys ran away with the match.
I'm sure next time Woy Woy will be a different proposition.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Avoca

What a shame - this would have been a cracker of a match. Avoca has always been one of the best coached sides in our age group, and this year they have some players to help them progress. But the game ended up as a dour affair which no-one at the field enjoyed.

Three yellow cards and three red cards to the Wildcat team completely took the steam out of the game - after one spectator from an opposing team stated that "this is one of the most intense and enjoyable games I have seen on the Coast for many years".

After being congratulated by the referee only a few short weeks ago, the coaching staff is at a loss to explain why the team suddenly dipped into the situation they found themselves in. "Maximum Discipline" was still the call from the coaching staff but, apparently, the teamlost the plot completely. From only one red cardagainst our team over quite a few seasons to three in the one game is inexplicable.

At least it is good to know that not one of the cards was for "foul play", but rather the team being frustrated by what was going on during the game and voiceing their disapproval. But the result finally went to the Wildcats 21-12 with the Avoca side showing they are a great team and should figure in the final series with quite a bit of wind in their sails.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Kariong

What an interesting game! At Thursday night training it looked like we would be scratching to come up with a team, let alone reserves. Then the game was changed from Woongarah Oval to Kariong Oval, and the time from 11am to 10am.

But on the morning of the match we ended up with a full team and four reserves, and the team looked forward to a great match against the always formidable Kariong. The game certainly didn't look as easy as the final 70-0 scoreline showed, and most spectators were surprised at the score. Kariong has some "big boppers" and some skillful players, but it wasn't enough against a Wildcats team which shrugged off the "tormented" game of last week, and knuckled down to show their skills.

No problems at all during the game, with very few penalties awarded to each side, despite some spirited play. The game progressed as a Rugby match should with both sides determined to play good football. Remembering that the corresponding game a few weeks ago was hailed as a terrific game by the referee, this game also lived up to that promise.

Warnervale Wildcats vs The Entrance

I really don't think that anyone really wants to talk about this game. It was constant niggle from the first whistle until the referee called the game off early due to the rising incidents of niggle, and after drama finally flared into a unsightly fight.

The referee and the assistant referees were unsighted on what sparked the fight, and no penalties or cards were issued and the game ended on a really sour note. Perhaps the most unfortunate aspect of the game was the rather loud comments from some parents that Warnervale is just a bunch of thugs and dirty ar#eholes. The video of the game shows the real story and our team can hold their heads up proudly.

Final score was 17-8

Warnervale Wildcats vs Woy Woy

Teams just keep lifting their game immensely when they play the Wildcats. As undefeated premiers from 2010, and from still remaining undefeated through a tough Fiji tour and a long season, we appear to be the team that everyone wants to beat.

This really was a cracker of a game with the Woy Woy Lions showing why they have been one of the benchmarks of the competition for so many years. If you look at this age group - from the Under 11 Premiership right up to the Under 15 title - it has been either Warnervale or Woy Woy who have been the premiers.

Very disappointing for the team when Avoca forfeited the game. The Sharks are always a great team to play against, and are one of the best coached teams in our age group. Always a challenge, and never taking a backward step.

But the team had to keep their boots in their bags and wait a week before they can play a game.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Woy Woy

A game at The Haven after a wet few days. The oval was up to its old tricks with a slippery surface, and quite a few puddles lying around to make things interesting. This was a great game, and it was obvious that the Lions had come with their "A Game" and were ready to rumble. Unfortunately for most of the game the Wildcats were crusing in their "B Game" mode, which can be a silly mistake against this very strong team.

The game was moving backwards and forwards for most of the match until Woy Woy took a penalty kick and lead the Wildcats by 3-0. This woke the Wildcats up and within a few minutes they had scored a try which was converted for the final score of 7-3. We just can't go into the Final series with this attitude, the team has to have its "footy heads" on right from the whistle if they are to make it to the Grand Final.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Ourimbah

This was the game that the Wildcats came out of their "winter slumber" and showed some of the talent that lives within this team. There was no mucking around, now being cocky, and no taking a win for granted - unfortunately for the Ourimbah side. The final score was a thumping . . . 59-0.

Now the team needs to stay awake for the major semi-final, then (if they bring their A Game for Woy Woy) finish off the year with a rousing Grand Final.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Woy Woy

What a fantastic team effort . . . the players were all focussed, there was lots of talk (without the yelling), and the ball was spinning from player to player without anyone trying to go for that "extra metre". Once again, the opposing team must have wished that the Wildcats stayed slumbering in their cave for another week.

Woy Woy was sent home humbled with a score of 55-10, even after the Wildcats "shut up shop" in the second half by only scoring 21 points to The Lion's 10 points. All the damage was done in the first half of the game with the first try coming after only a few minutes at the end of some sustained attacking play. The game quickly got out of the Woy Woy team's reach with a number of tries scored very quickly.
