Congratulations to the U13's, U16's and U19 Colts for making it through to their Grand Finals on 12 September. All teams represented the club brilliantly and although they did not win the games, had successful seasons.
The U13's went down gallantly to Terrigal. After two quick early tries to Terrigal the players stepped up and pressured well just to fall short a couple of times. End Score Warnervale 0 - Terrigal 26
The U16's were playing in their first grand final against the Terrigal team who had won the past 6. An intense game of missed opportunities saw the boys fall just short. End Score Warnervale 5 - Terrigal 10
The colts were a mix of older players and players from the 2008 U17's premiership winning squad. After a slowish start to the season the players hit their straps towards the finals, claiming the minor premiership and deserved their spot in the Grand Final after a nailbiting 12 - 6 win over Avoca in the major semi. Again a close game until the last few minutes when Avoca scored a couple of late tries. End Score Warnervale 8 - Avoca 23
While grand final wins alluded them each team should feel very proud of their overall season and their efforts to make the grand final and battle so hard.

Another proud day for the Wildcats
It's not too often that father and son can play together in the same rugby match. But Saturday 16th May was that day, when the Wildcats took on the Northlakes side at Slade Park.

Nathan and Tos Saipaia - proud father and son
Coaching staff and some of the players from the Under 14's attended the Anzac Day Dawn Service at Wyong RSL to pay their respects to our fallen comrades.
Shivering in the pre-day darkness the group from the Wildcats listened in solemn silence to the various speakers, bugles and bagpipes. A good hot breakfast and a few orange juices was provided by the RSL Club to all the attendees.

Kianu, Ben, Brenton, Matt and Sam pay their respects at the Wyong RSL shrine

You have to admit, Greg Florimo looks a treat in a

Warnervale Wildcats vs Ourimbah 2/5/2009
Last Saturday 1st May the Mighty Warnervale Wildcats kicked off the 2009 Walla Rugby campaign in entertaining and running rugby style. The kids had been jumping out of their skin at training on the Thursday evening and were keen to rip in once the whistle blew.
Our Under 7 squad now consists of 14 boys and 1 young lady. We had 14 kids turn up for a game last week. We played two different squads in both halves to give every child a good run. In the end we ran in 9 tries to Ourimbah's 8 to win 45-40. That isn't the important thing. The way we played the game guys, the way you listened to the referee and your coaches was outstanding. I look forward to you training hard and playing your best this week at home against Kariong.
Thank you to all the parents who came along and helped out with the setting up of the ground. Please continue to help us in this area for all home games. The Under 7's are responsible for this. I would also ask if some parents who come a little later jump on the bbq when the U8'S play. It only takes 20 minutes here and there to help out and we can all have a great fun family day.
Congratulations to Josh Luppino for being our 1st sportsman of the week! I would also like to thank all the boys and the parents who allowed them to back up and support out Under 8's. Great club spirit fella's!

Warnervale Wildcats vs Kariong
The Under 7's played their 2nd game of Walla Rugby last Saturday and again played unbelievably. It was so fantastic to see many of our young lads and Bella offer to go across and play for Kariong. Thanks to all the kids who did!
The match was full or running and entertaining rugby. Passing, catching, two handed tag and lots of tries. This product is sooooo good you guys should be on TV!
Thanks to all the parents who helped setting the ground up and had a go on the Barbeque. Keep up the good work and don't forget to support the Wildcats Ball on Saturday 20th June at Wyong Leagues Club. Please speak with Laurie, Chris or myself regarding tickets asap.
I look forward to another entertaining game of footy this Saturday against Northlakes at home. Congratulations to Mitchell Pombart who had a great game and being our 'Sportsman' of the day.
Thanks everyone,

Wow, the under 8’s took to tackling in a game like a fish takes to water. We had eleven boys with the wonderful sevens backing up; thank you Sam Ariel, Zac Head, Jordan Leota and Micky Peebles. Well done to our man of the match Jack Barr with an amazing 5 tries and nice job to Sam Birkin with the other two. An exceptional display of tackling skills shown by all, with Jamie Leota leading the tackle count. It has to be mentioned that both Tom and Grant survived their first time running with the boys (much to the surprise of all) and we are eagerly awaiting Steve’s turn next week against The Entrance. A big thank you to Glen O’Neil for refereeing the game and all the boys (and their parents) should be very proud of themselves.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Entrance

Up against The Entrance this week the boys showed they can play to the rules under all circumstances. Our boys stayed on side and played with excellent sportsmanship, they made us all very proud. The score was not our way, however to be great sportsman is much more important. Two of our boys became real rugby players with their first stud marks one on the nose and the other across their chest, very impressive. Jordan Leota was our man of the match as he just kept on getting up no matter what happened, well done mate. We will get ‘em next time boys.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Woy Woy 2/5/2009
The first game of the 2009 season and the Warnervale Wildcats were at home to Woy Woy. New gear was adjusted & proudly worn, boots were taped, head gear tied & mouth guards were in place. The Wildcat’s were ready......
The moment the referee’s whistle blew the Under 9’s had the game in hand. The team, a mixture of old & new players out shone Woy Woy by a blinding 100 tries to Woy Woy’s 10!! Not bad for a season opener!!! There was so many great moments in the match where the more established players’ really stabilized the teams’ play structure to allow our new recruits to truly enjoy their first game of Rugby Union. Well done Joey, for crossing the line so many times with great speed & style! Keep it up!! The forwards, again played such a consistent, strong game. Special mention to Lochie, Patrick, Chance & Nugget. AWESOME. You all seized the moment, ran & scored in style. WELL DONE. Tackling machines Jeremy & Oregan. Again making the most of every opportunity, stopping Woy Woy before they even got started. Even though the No. 1 & No. 7 were twice as big as them! A HUGE well done to ultra consistent & MAN OF THE MATCH, Connor. Yet again, we were all transfixed by your huge tackles, superior ball handling & great speed to the try line. A wonderful effort. Fantastic play by Eli, Matt, Bryce & Justin. You did yourselves & the team proud. Thank you.
We at home again next week, this time against Terrigal. The Wildcats’ are going to show the Trojans’ what Under 9 Rugby is all about. Be prepared for the next RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE......

Warnervale Wildcats vs Terrigal 9/5/2009
WE DID IT !!!!!
A heart pounding, voice altering, AMAZING game of rugby was played last Saturday morning. A united, determined group of players’ ran on against Terrigal. A side that had not been beaten in over two & a half years. Fierce defence, excellent clean outs & superior speed & ball skills saw the Wildcats’ pounce convincingly. Resulting in a 30-20 point victory. Captain for the day Connor, blitzed his rivals to score three tries. Newcomer, Bryce, scored a length of the field try that left Terrigal both flat footed & amazed at the speed & agility of this young man. Our deserved MAN OF THE MATCH , Joey, also scored one try.
The forwards really came into their own in this match. ALL the drills were worth it, as the result not only speaks of a well deserved victory. But far more importantly the proof that all these young players’ have worked extremely hard at the basics. Honing their skills in training & improving at EVERY match. I cannot say WELL DONE enough!!!!! The forwards set up so much of the play. Strong & defiant, relentless in the pursuit of the ball. FANTASTC. A special mention to two point recipient, Brock. A great, great effort. Your determination was inspiring. James, had his first game of Union on Saturday. Somewhat, a baptism of fire! But this young man, certainly did not let his side down. The best part being, that he really enjoyed the game. Welcome, & well done.
Our hard tackling backs also prevented Terrigal from scoring many a try. Despite a few knocks along the way, they all came up smiling. Keep up the pressure!!!
Every spectator present, can attest to watching a truly thrilling game of rugby. Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. Thank you, it was our privilege.
We are at home again next week to Northlakes.
GO WILDCATS ’ !!!!

Warnervale Wildcats vs Northlakes 16/5/09
The Warnervale Wildcats’, again at their home ground, played Northlakes Rugby Club at the very decent hour of 10.10am. From the kick off Northlakes were on the back foot. Valiantly trying to penetrate the awesome defence of the Wildcats’. The team, well drilled, in their positions proved far too strong for Northlakes. Scoring 90 points. leaving Northlakes scoreless, their first time this season.
What spectacular efforts from all our players. Tries were the order of the day.
The avalanche of 5 pointers were achieved by the following exciting Wildcats!! Connor (4) Matt (3) Justin (1) Joey (5) Eli (3) Nathan (3). Birthday boy Nugget was the MAN OF THE MATCH, Connor was deservingly awarded the 2 points & fierce forward Patrick was awarded 1 point. Great efforts by everyone made it a most thrilling match. Brock really stretched his legs, just missing out on a try. Super effort!! James, also showed vast improvement in this his 2nd game of rugby. Well done, great effort. Oregan, consistently felled the considerably bigger Northlakes players, setting up so many of the tries for her team mates. Bryce & Chance ran for their lives & both played a technically well structured game.
Keep it up!!! I cannot stress enough the consistent efforts of our forward pack. Your strength & determination, excellent clean outs, assist our try scorers time & time again.
The quality of our game play , continually improves. Training drills are all important for us to maintain & improve our game skills. Keep up the great work guys.
We are at home against Woy Woy again next Saturday.

One of our new team players Jonah, making a run!
Well this certainly was a great way to start off the rugby season, the boys were in form, the coaches were in form and the parents were in form!! What more could you ask for but .... a win! ....... and we did it!
I feel the boys all played really well for their first game! we have a few new players this year and they all fitted in really well.
Matt B got the first points on the board with a fantastic break down the side, he went on to score another in the second half! young Owen also scored a fantastic try as well as Matty W! and LeRoy helped the points coming with a couple of conversions!
3,2,1's were hard to hand out this week as they all played so well, but the points went to:-
Matt W & Damo - 1 Point
Owen & Matt B - 2 Points
James D - 3 Points
Well done to Wade, Jim and the boys and also the fantastic support from the parents/grandparents ~ especially those that helped out with BBQ/Canteen duties.

What an awesome game of Rugby!!! the boys proved to be great competition against their all time rivals TERRIGAL!
They looked like they were on top of it right from the beginning with Matty W flying down the sideline in the first few minutes of the game to score our first try!! . although Terrigal fought hard ..…they just couldn't do it! The Wildcats were the better team on the day!!!!….
James D alsow scored a brilliant try as well as Matt B and Austin W, with help from LeRoy converting it just made the difference in the game!
3points this week went to Matt B, 2 points to one of our new comers Brock H and 1 point to Dom C and Matt W.
Thanks again to the great parent support .....

Wildcats vs Ourimbah - synchronised rugby?
Warnervale Wildcats vs Ourimbah 2/5/2009
Saturday saw the start of our 2009 season campaign with a home game against Ourimbah. Our new recruits in Jackson Barker and Tom O'Rourke along with a late start for one of the original team members Jesse Weaver all made their mark on the game .
Ourimbah came out hard as we expected - they are well drilled in the forwards and dominated us last year in the set piece . This year was no exception, a big pack and once again well drilled.
We weathered the storm for the first 7 minutes and with good service from the scrum on half way JJ looped of a pop pass from Sam Allen and scored in the corner. With good forward pressure and scrambling defense 3 more tries to the backs in the first half saw us out to 24-0 at half time.
Ourimbah came back hard in the second half , once again asking the question up front - with no points for the first 12 minutes. Some scrambling defense down the side lines with Ben Butler at his best in full flight taking out the wingers - James McKee up front with bone crushing assault saw us get on top.
Our backline continued to test the opposition with the game plan well executed. Fitness saw us drop of late in the second half however we pushed out to a 43 - 0 final score. A good way to start the 2009 campaign.

What a very disappointing day for the team. Our rep players were away, but we were prepared to match Terrigal for numbers just to get a game for the boys. We had halfbacks playing at hooker, fullbacks playing at No.10, and wingers playing inthe centres. But it didn't matter - the boys were going to get a game.
But then . . . . no show by the Terrigal team. Everyone was kitted up, sign-on sheet completed . . . but no show by Terrigal. How extremely disappointing, we didn't even get a phone call or email.
The boys just shook their head and said, "but if Terrigal was also short of players then it would have been good just to play and have a good time". Sorry boys, not to be.
So Warnervale gets 5 points for a Forfeit, but would much rather have had a good close game and damn the points. How very disappointing . . . . .

OK . . . this damned rain and closed ovals is getting damned riduculous. What the heck is going on???? The players have been training all year and only had ONE game.
In fact, it is getting that boring that Matt decided he was going to jump out of a plane, just to get some adventure going.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Ourimbah 13/6/2009
The weekend before was a General Bye to allow the rep team to fulfill its obligations at the State Championship in Orange. Just another week's wait before the team could have a game. Five weeks without a game, and the players were jumping out of their skin.
And it showed on the field when James was just a bit over zealous with a tackle and was sent off after just 10 minutes. The video of the tackle showed that it was certainly ill-considered, but certainly not a dangerous and intentional tackle. The juciciary sitting will make interesting news - referees interpretation of what he saw, and the video film of what the camera saw.
So . . . the team was in terrible strife. JJ had hurt himself in the first 5 minutes, James was sent off after 10 minutes, and we had a number of injured players who couldn't play. This should test the team's ability to the full, and they responded.
Although playing one man down in the backline, with the forwards being forced to play with a full 8 players, it was always going to be tough. But the team responded magnificently and ran out winners at the end of the day.
The scoreboard will shown that Ourimbah scored three unconverted tries, but each try was hotly disputed with Wildcats players adament that the ball never touched the grass on any occasion. Even after the game was "done and dusted" the players were still shaking their heads about the three disputed tries.
Good indication of the esprit de corps of the team that they weren' happy with winning with one player down, but were filthy that they had three tries posted on the scoreboard against them.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Entrance 20/6/2009 - actually played later
Another rainy weekend, and the only games that didn't go ahead just happened to feature the Under 14's. So instead of versing The Entrance the boys had to go to Warnervale Oval, put on their jerseys, get their photos taken, then take the jerseys off, and go home.
More disappointment for the team. Luckily, the game hasn't been abandoned, just postponed to the weekend of 18th July.
Game postponed until the middle week of the school holidays.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Entrance 18/7/2009
I know it looks strange, but it took nearly a month to get this game played. And what a cracker of a game it was, see-sawing throughout the match, and the game was only decided in the last few minutes with a terrific try from James McKee.
The final score involved four tries each, with our goalkicking giving us the final 4 points buffer. The next time we play it will be on their home turf, so we had better lift our game.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Avoca 27/6/2009

The coaching staff feel that simply running up points is not in the best interest of the team, and Junior Rugby Union on the coast. Teams just cannot be simply flogged every week and be expected to keep backing up for another game. It is a great credit to the Avoca club that they give their best in every game, and the boys keep rolling up gamely and taking on all comers - congratulations to the whole Avoca Under 14 team.
At the end of the day the coaching staff made the point that the game was not about individual scoring feats, rather it was about getting some cohesion in the team. Even to the point that players were warned before taking the field that any selfish play would have that player replaced immediately.
So, with this over their heads, the team performed as a team should. The backing up, the commitment to the rucks and mauls, and the "standing by your team-mates" was very much the way the game went. The final score didn't really matter as any team would have wilted under this great team effort.
Good to see the team picking up their form from last year - and with new players - even exceeding it.

The team learned a good lesson today. Don't take anyone in this competition lightly. This Woy Woy White side is a very good side indeed. If they can stay together they should grow into a formidable outfit - well done to all the players, coaches and parents of this side.
So . . . after an early 10 minute wake-up call the Wildcats started to realise they had to play footie to get a win against this plucky side. In the end the score ended up as a quite convincing win the the Wildcats. But we can't take sides easily this year - we have to go in their right from the start with our "game heads" on.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Terrigal 11/7/2009

A good hit-out for the team, the Terrigal side is always tough to beat, and this game was no different. Even though they are short on numbers the Terrigal team drew on courage, and a few Under 13's to take the game to Warnervale.
In the end the skill of the Wildcats shone through and the score ended up a convincing 36-0 win.
Welcome to Codey who was thrown straight into the second row and responded splendidly, and with walking wounded across the park it was good to see some new players join the team.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Entrance 1/8/2009
Another one of those frustrating byes.
Warnervale Wildcats vs Entrance 1/8/2009
Out muscled - out enthused - out thought - out played . . . . just plain flogged.
The first loss for the team since the Under 11's was a belting. The Entrance played fantastic football, while the Wildcats seemed to be having a bit of a snooze.
Frustration started to mount as the team just couldn't get any ball. The penalties kept flowing against them, the 50/50 calls went against them, and the game started to drift away. The quicker the team learns that complaining about the "calls" and playing with a bad attitude won't get them anywhere, the quicker the team will get back to the force it was.
So much talent in this team, but the heads dropping was very disappointing. The boys have to get this season back on the rails, and the quicker the better.

Wildcats win pre-season tournament
On Saturday 12 March the Warnervale Wildcat under 16's took part in the inaugural Gosford Rugby Club sevens tournament held at Gosford showground. The day was split into 17's and 16's divisions with four 17's teams and five 16's teams with each playing a round of pool games and the top two in each division after the pool games playing in the final.
Leading into the day we were confident we could perform well with the 13 extremely fit players from 6 weeks of hard training, a great team atmosphere and above all a large dose of speed.
The Warnervale 16's played Terrigal in the first round and were in control the whole game winning 24 - 12 after a try to Terrigal on the bell. This was a great performance as it was the teams first taste of sevens football. The next game was against Gosford and what should have been a comfortable win saw the play revert back to the standard 15 a side game with lots of rucks rather than our plan of expansive game play. While we did not look like losing the 12 - 5 score line was not what we had hoped for. The next game against Woy Woy showed us what we needed to do to win with the Woy Woy team using the ball extremely well with quick ball movement and great use of pace. The end score was 12 - 7 in favour of Woy Woy that was flattering for us as we only scored in the last 30 seconds. The last pool game was against our archrivals Northlakes. After a spiteful opening 3 minutes we dominated the remainder of game to come out victors 19 - 5 to place second in the pool behind Woy Woy (by one point on for and against) and reach the final.
The final was a great game with both sides using the ball well and coming up with mistakes at crucial times. Although it was close Woy Woy had the better of the first half and were ahead 12 - 0 at the break. The second half saw renewed focus from our boys and we rallied well nabbing a try shortly after play resumed to narrow the gap and a further try to level the scores with two minutes to go. In the last few seconds, with Woy Woy tiring and our guys still going strong, great lead up work ended in a try under the posts and the game was won 19 - 12.
This was a great team effort after a long day with all players contributing. It was great to see so many parents perched on the hill under the Warnervale tent and it was great sign of a highly committed and unified team.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Terrigal Blue 18/4/2009
Result Warnervale 12 - Terrigal 17
In a tough first round encounter against the reigning premiers, the Warnervale boys were pumped after having a great off season that included winning the Gosford 7's an a commanding trial win over Southern Beaches.
hile confidence was high the team was without 8 key players, 6 to the Academy squad, which left only 14 boys available on the day. This squad was still in the forming stage as we had inherited some 15's and 17's and had only trained together for two weeks. To Terrigals credit they matched numbers to ensure an even contest and that it was.
fter missing two great opportunities we were down 5 nil at half time. We knew Terrigal would come out hard and fast and that is what they did. Defence was the key and we held out many raids. Terrigal scored straight after half time to take the score to 10 - 0 and from there the tide changed. The boys started dominating possession and some excellent lead up work lead to a try 10 minutes in to the half to Jay Lees that was then converted by Jay. Terrigal up 10 - 7.
From the kick off we pinned Terrigal down in their half until a series of turnovers and penalties let them into our half for which they eventually scored taking the score to 17 - 7. The boys hit back almost immediately after a Terrigal mistake from the kickoff. Matt Marland scored shortly after to make the score 17 - 12 with three minutes to go. Off the deep kick off the boys controlled the ball extremely well and drove to within 30 metres of the Terrigal line and a good chance to snatch the game.
As with most of the game a turnover allowed Terrigal to get off the hook and they put the ball into touch ending the game. Given the circumstances it was a brilliant performance and had we converted all our opportunities we could have won easily.
Man of the match was Sam Murphy who defended and ran all day. A great game by all and one that gave us heaps of confidence for the season.
Warnervale Wildcats vs Gosford
Result Warnervale 15 - Gosford 12
With the country carnival on at Nowra we were still down 6 players but after our last performance were very confident. The first 15 minutes of the game was all Gosford in attack. Wave after wave was thrown at the boys and they kept repelling them and getting vital turnovers to release the pressure.
When we finally got quality possession we were only down 5 - 0 and this could have been much worse if it were not for some outstanding defence. Our first time in the Gosford half produced points to Sam Murphy off the back of the scrum and from there we took control of the game.
Not long after, a beautiful backline move saw Ryan Bruce go over in the corner and give us a 10 - 5 halftime lead. Again it could have been a few more with three opportunities not taken.
The second half began in the same as the first with Gosford pressuring our line for the first few minutes. After that it was a tense battle with our boys getting very close on many occasions only to turn the ball over. Again if a few passes went to hand we score a few more tries. From a penalty we took a quick tap and one of Kurt Lee crashed over only to be ruled held up as the grounding, which could be seen from the sideline, did not get picked up due to all the players being around the ball. From our ensuing scrum we lost the feed and Gosford worked the ball all the way down the field to score and take the lead 12 - 10 with 8 minutes to play.
Again the boys showed their fitness and resolve by regaining the ball of the kickoff and a blindside snipe off a scrum by Sam Murphy ended in another try to give us back the lead and the eventual score was 15 - 12. A few tricky moments went past but the boys held strong to win.
Man of the match was Will Magnusson with a brilliant display at 5/8 with excellent attack and defence. Another awesome performance that indicated we are a real chance of going a long way this year.
Warnervale Wildcats vs Woy Woy
Warnervale 33 - Woy Woy 12
This week the team welcomed back the 5 rep players for what was going to be a tight game. Woy Woy had won both of their games and were coming off a belting to Terrigal Red 50 - 7. The boys knew if they could stick with them in the first ten minutes that Woy Woy would begin to let their game fall away. Tries in the first half to Tyron Cullen and Will Magnusson gave the team a 14 - 5 lead at half time. Again several excellent opportunities were missed but our defence was solid with their only try coming from a blindside raid.
The second half really opened up for the boys and we scored within the first three minutes to take a promising 21 - 5 lead through a try to Brennan Wanstall and another conversion from Jared Lees. We dominated possession and although there were a few turnovers our support and ball security at the breakdown was the best it had been all year. After a turnover and a few free kicks Woy Woy got back on the scoreboard after about 10 minutes camped in our 22. While we defended brilliantly a loss at the lineout led to a free kick and after a few ruck they Woy Woy ended up scoring to take the score to 21 - 12. While we were very confident they were back within striking distance.
From here the boys lifted another gear and some brilliant runs by the backs and great forward play led to a further two tries, another to Will and a 30 metre "get out of my way everyone" run from Pauli McWillams. With one further conversion from Jared Lees the end score was 33 -12. A brilliant team performance with everyone contributing.
There is still work to do especially with ball security going to ground and some aspects of support but overall it was a great game and a great win. Man of the match was Jack O' Connor for his punishing defence on all comers especially the opposing no 8 who outweighed him by more than 50 kilos.
Tries: Will Magnusson 2, Tyron Cullen, Brennan Wanstall, Pauli McWillams
Conversions: Jay Lees 4/5
Warnervale Wildcats vs Terrigal Blue
Warnervale 12 - Terrigal 14
This game would be the one to see exactly where we are in the scheme of things. We knew that Terrigal are dominant in the first 10 minutes and we needed to shut them down. For the most part it was a see saw for the first fifteen with Terrigal having most of the possession. While our defence was excellent a good bounce from a kick fell the way of Terrigal that allowed them to get the first try and take the lead 7 nil. From the kick off we regained the ball and the hit back with a converted try very quickly through some excellent lead up work and brilliant ball security that allowed winger Zac McGowan to score in the corner. The arm wrestle continued after this and with two minutes on the clock another great play with some excellent support led to a try to Tyron Cullen to make the half time score 12 - 7 our way.
The second half was much the same as the first however we were the dominant team in the half building pressure for a long time but unable to capitalise. A simple mistake saw Terrigal attack from just inside our half and they did not need another invitation., While we scrambled well the pressure and attack finally told and they scored a converted try to take the score to 14 - 12 with ten to play. For the next ten minutes we were camped in Terrigals half only to be denied by desperate defence and poor options. The game ended 14 - 12 but we were far from beaten. Next time we will take those opportunities and reverse the score if not even bigger.
Try scorers: Zac McGowan, Tyron Cullen
Goals: Jay Lees 1/2
