Warnervale Wildcats vs Terrigal (1-4-2017 - away)

The TLE Electrical Wildcats 2nd grade’s first game for the 2017 was a tough away game against semi-finalists Terrigal.  After weeks of solid rain we were greeted with sunshine and perfect rug by weather.

This was a tough game for the full 70 minutes, some solid hits in defence and keenly contested scrums and lineouts, reflected in the final score with the TLE Electrical Wildcats going down 8 – 3. Promising signs for the Wildcats was our resolute defence. With a very one-sided penalty count against us (including a yellow card) the boys as a whole defended in our 22 for the majority of the game, constantly turning the Terrigal attack back with rock solid defence.  Whilst Terrigal enjoyed a 75% share of the ball they only crossed our line once in what was a gritty display by the team.

Best players on the day were Lock Pat Walton, skipper Dean Crofskey, new Prop Haydon Smith, fly-half Sione Tonga and new centre Mitch Johnson. Overall the full squad put in a gutsy effort – with such a weight of possession against them many sides would have let the score blow out.

Warnervale Wildcats vs Woy Woy (8-4-2017 - home)

The second round saw TLE Electrical Wildcats 2nd grade at home taking on last year’s premiers Woy Woy.  Another sunny day ensured a fast track and the team were confident on improving the result.

The game opened well and we were on the attack, controlling the ball well and putting pressure on Woy Woy in their 22.  Unfortunately on a sweeping backline move that had ‘try’ written all over it the last pass went to ground.  Woy Woy have three very sharp Fijian backs – they seized upon the ball and utilised their signature ‘broken play’ attacking skills running 90m to score. The game then settled into a bit of an arm wrestle however another dropped ball just on half time saw Woy Woy’s backs again utilise their flair and score. Half time 12 – 0, no need to panic.

The second half was again an arm wrestle, the Wildcats were dominating the scrum however Woy Woy were spoiling our lineouts.  A yellow card to our fullback certainly put pressure on us mid-way through the 2nd half and another dropped ball in attack saw them again score, Wildcats winger Craig Absalom scored a try but we were running out of time and the final score was 19-5.
Best players were Prop Haydon Smith, Lock Pat Walton, breakaways Max Alexander & Jacob Griffin.

The TLE Electrical Wildcats 2nd grade have a bye this weekend 15th April – we then face up to Kariong Wanders at home at Woongarrah on Sat 22nd April – see you there.

19 -5 loss
