Keanu Ashwell and Cameron McNamara are two Warnervale players who have played for the Wildcats for many years. They have both achieved higher honours in Australia (see archives.html), and recently expanded their experience by travelling to the USA to play with the Santa Monica Rugby Club.
The boys started off living in Malibu in a club director's house while he was overseas. They had a great preseason travelling around America, and then put their heads down and started training.
They obviously made an impression as both boys were selected in the Division 1 team to contest games in the Southern California Rugby Football Union. The Division 1 SCRFU competition is arguably the top level of amateur club rugby in the United States.
Cameron made his top grade debut against Los Angeles two weekends ago, while Keanu made his top grade debut against the San Diego Old Aztecs last weekend. Santa Monica won both games and are at the top of the League Table for the D1 Championship.
Last weekend Keanu played the full game, while Cameron played 75 minutes in the Division 2 team (2 tries and a bloody nose), then 60 minutes in the Division 1 team. Don't know how much of that time was spent seagulling???
